Starting May 2017, the Department of Business will offer short courses based on its existing programme options as well as workforce training opportunities in collaboration with other agencies and companies. The goal is to cater to the potential learner who:

  • Is interested in exploring a particular topic without commitment to an entire programme
  • Does not have the time and/or financial resources to commit to an entire programme
  • Wishes to continue professional development on a flexible schedule
  • Is desirous of accessing current programmes but is challenged to meet existing matriculation requirements for Math and English

As it furthers its mission to stimulate the entrepreneurial spirit, the Department seeks to create new and flexible pathways to acquiring training and certification.  It envisions this initiative as the foundation of a robust Continuing Education Programme for the Antigua State College with benefits for prospective as well as current students.

The initial course offerings will run over an 8-week period in two sessions as follows:

Session 1 May 2 – June 22 In Practice: Human Resource Management, Gender Studies, Functional Math: A Foundation Course for Business Students
Session 1 classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Session 2 October 3 – November 30 In Practice: Marketing Elements: Visuals OR Basic Principles of Insurance, Functional English: A Foundation Course for Business Students, Pre-College Algebra
Session 2 class schedule to be determined
Cost per course: EC$500

Prospective students are expected to have the appropriate attitude towards learning and doing so in a collaborative environment, as well as some degree of numeracy and literacy skills.

At the end of these short courses  participants will be given a certificate. Where applicable,  participants, having met the required level of  performance,  will get a three credit exemption from any of the Department of Business’ Associate Degree Programmes once they have applied and gained entry into the Department.  Participants who successfully complete our Functional Math and English courses will be eligible for matriculation into the Department’s Programmes once they have applied and fulfill other entry requirements.
