The name Dr. Alister Francis is forever inextricably tied to that of the Antigua State College. He was its architect, chief fundraiser, champion, and Principal from its inception until his death on February 11, 2000.
When the staff sought to find ways to recognize his sterling efforts in building this institution and to remember him, they emerged with the Dr. Alister Francis Memorial Lecture Series held annually during Education Week. From the pages of the pamphlet prepared for the inaugural lecture, we construct the profile of a man who dedicated his life to this institution and the cause of higher education in the nation and the region. We introduce current students to the man whose picture hangs in the library; the man we affectionately called ‘Doc’.
